Bring one cup of water to a simmer in a small pot.
Stir in the oats with a fork, followed by the dates, vanilla, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, coriander, black pepper and salt.
Simmer for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Stir in the milk, then cover and remove from heat.
Let the oats stand for 2 minutes.
Serve topped with diced pear, maple syrup and granola, if you wish.
