Let me start off by saying that I’m a snob (known fact).
Especially when it comes to chocolate.
There is good chocolate aka Fran’s.
And then there is not so good chocolate…
Aka He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (not Voldemort, but pretty much just as nasty).
And then there is down right horrible “chocolate” which doesn’t even deserve a cool Harry Potter reference. (Hershey’s I’m looking at you man.)
So I was dreaming up this minty, chocolatey, decadent yet healthy oatmeal when I decided I had to make it then and there.
I hustled my bum to the tiny neighborhood market and almost threw a hissy fit in the meager chocolate section when I realized they only carry my least favorite not so good chocolate.
It’s local blah blah and fair trade blah blah but if I’m going to be completely honest it tastes like wax.
This chocolate is probably comparable to Voldemort’s waxy skin, although I don’t think he could be considered fair trade.
Anyway.
I sighed and grabbed the pure dark bar out of desperation, Malfoy style.
This extremely dark guy is vegan (hooray?) but 85% cocoa should be illegal unless you enjoy bitterness and misery.
Voldemort Voldemort ooo Volde Volde Volde Voldemort.
Okay, enough with the complaints.
Pure maple syrup and fancy pants coarse Mediterranean sea salt can cover up the foulness like Professor Quirrell’s turban.
Those are just the optional toppings… melted dark chocolate (get some good stuff please), pure maple syrup and salt to bring out all the flavors!
The oatmeal itself contains convenient quick cooking oats, cacao powder, pure vanilla extract, a couple drops of organic peppermint flavor, a splash of unsweetened original almond milk, maple syrup and salt, to taste.
Whisk up your minty, chocolatey pot of magic, taste (without burning your tongue), adjust to make it all perfect a la Hermione, then devour.
And don’t forget about those toppings!
P.S. Start with just a couple drops of peppermint flavor then add another drop if you desire a stronger mint flavor. If you want a sweeter oatmeal, up the maple syrup… just don’t go crazy because it’s still the beginning of the year and we’re trying so hard to keep our sugar intake in check peeps.
P.P.S. If you want even more chocolate and mint in your life, this healthy shake is pretty darn tasty if I do say so myself.
P.P.P.S. You guessed it… Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was on tv the other night and I couldn’t not watch it.
