Happy New Year!

Today we’re talking about toast, the super cool kid who probably won’t be losing his popularity anytime soon.

Have I mentioned before that I actually prefer the heel of a loaf of bread for toasting purposes?

However, if I’m crafting a sandwich without toasting the bread, I will be the jerk who grabs two fresh, fluffy slices from the very center of the loaf.

Muah ha ha.

But the heel really does make the best toast, if you’re going that route.

Probably because I always go for whole grain loaves of bread studded with all sorts of tasty seeds.

And everyone knows that the seeds are most bountiful on the ends of a loaf.

If you’re a white bread person then this whole argument is not valid, but I’m assuming that if you’re trying to live healthy, white bread was kicked to the curb a while ago.

(Where it belongs, if I do say so myself!)

In case you need some clarification as to why toast is so great. Listen up! (Er read up, I guess.)

Reason 1: Toast is quick.

A lot of people think they don’t have time to eat breakfast, let alone whip up something in their own kitchen.

Gasp!

But I’m sure just about anyone can find a way to pop a slice of bead in the toaster for 1.89 minutes then smear on some nut butter, fruity jam, or creamy mashed avocado before shoving the entire masterpiece in his or her mouth while simultaneously running out the door.

Multitasking is the key to life. (At least one of many, many keys, along with moderation and petting fluffy puppies every single day in order to maintain your sanity.)

Reason 2: Toast is healthy.

Or it has the potential to be healthy, I suppose. Nutella toast is an acceptable dessert! Or birthday breakfast.

Always choose a whole grain option, then spread on some protein (nut butter) and/or healthy fats (avocado… although nut butters have healthy fats too!) and top everything off with a bit of fresh fruit or veggies if you’re really trying to win a prize. Which you should.

Reason 3: Toast is delicious.

If something tastes damn good, no explanation is required.

So now that you’re all up on the toast bandwagon, it’s time to do some toasting yourself!

Because toast can become a suitable breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack or dessert.

This particular toast that I’m about to share with you pops a hard-core flavor punch and it’s got some healthy going on as well (of course).

Whole grain seed bread is toasted to golden brown perfection, then topped with creamy, nutty and slightly salty peanut butter, tangy kefir, and sweet banana slices then drizzled with a bit of honey, if you’re wanting a little more sugar in your life. (Savory peeps, I will never understand you.)

One, two, three, toast!

P.S. You can sub in another type of nut butter. Almond butter would be really good here! (Or nutella hehe.)

P.P.S. If kefir (a super healthy yogurt drink) seems just a little too odd to you, sub in some plain nonfat yogurt.

P.P.P.S. Same goes with the banana, switch things up if you want. Thinly sliced apple or even raspberries would get two thumbs up.

P.P.P.P.S. If honey isn’t your thing, but you’re still wanting a bit more sweetness, drizzle on a little maple syrup or agave. Or just make this toast instead!
