So clearly I’m into drinkable chocolate…
We’ve got chocolate milk, hot chocolate, smoothies and thicc shakes galore!
But I mean, is anyone complaining??
The less chewing involved, the faster it enters my system.
Okay okay you get the point, switching gears.
So I’ve been intrigued by maca (aka an edible South American root) for a while now.
It seems to be one of those trendy ingredients that people are throwing in their smoothies + oats left and right.
So I finally caved and picked up a semi pricy bag of the powdered stuff from none other than Whole Foods.
They were having a supplements sale and it was their slightly more affordable 365 brand, so I pounced on the opportunity.
Curiosity does not kill this cat.
Any who.
Does it offer any real benefit, besides pairing well with bananas and chocolate?
I really couldn’t tell you.
But I’m all for the power of flavor and the potential of a possibly successful placebo affect situation.
Nerd much?
All you have to do to obtain this creamy dreamy healthy breakfast (or any meal, including dinner) shake is blend very ripe frozen banana slices, cacao powder, maca powder, pea protein powder (optional, but protein!!), nutty almond butter, unsweetened almond milk plus a pinch of pink sea salt.
And you’re all set!
Drizzle almond butter on top for that decadent boujee foodie aesthetic.
P.S. You could honestly leave out the maca and this shake would still be bomb… just sayin. Same goes for the protein powder of course.
P.P.S. Do not be a fool like myself and purchase Trader Joe’s unsweetened unflavored almond milk–it tastes like water that someone who just consumed almonds sneezed on. Joe, you Trader. But I’m not about waste and the glorious flavors of this shake masked it well, sneeze and all. (Silk’s unsweetened unflavored Oat Milk would be delightful.)
