Spicy Pesto Cream Cheese Spread | Living Healthy in Seattle

Wave a perfectly toasted whole grain bagel slathered in tangy cream cheese in front of my face and I’m a goner.

It’s that whole carbs + cheese situation.

Just like pizza.

Pizza bagels are a whole other story.

If you’ve never had the opportunity to wolf down a chewy, savory pizza bagel then you better get on that, my friend.

But today we’re talking about a tasty 3-ingredient spread that you can whip up and either:

A. Dunk veggies in.

That is, if you’re trying to keep your snackage game on the healthy end of the spectrum.

B. Smother your favorite whole grain crackers with.

You can call it crackers on crack. Because apparently there’s a “crack” version of pretty much all types of food now. (You can Google that one yourself, I’m not about to link you over to any type of search containing the word “crack” for multiple reasons.)

C. Layer in a sandwich.

You know how much I love a good veggie sandwich. Although this stuff would go pretty well with turkey or chicken, I’m assuming.

Or…

D. Flavor up a modest bagel. (That’s what we’re doing today!)

Modesty is appreciated around here, but sometimes a little confidence booster is nice.

Dress up a humble bagel in a creamy, herby, spicy spread and that bagel will surely turn heads.

And potentially drop some jaws?

You know where I’m going.

Simply stir together your favorite, seasonal pesto with tangy cream cheese (from the stick is preferred over that tub stuff) then dump in as many red pepper flakes as you like.

And you’re done!

P.S. Basil pesto is my fav, but parsley pesto, sun-dried tomato pesto or even cilantro pesto would be nice.

P.P.S. Don’t be a cheapo like myself and purchase the Whole Foods brand jarred basil pesto. That stuff tastes nasty. Fresh is always best!

P.P.P.S. I love Whole Foods, just not their pesto.
