Nutella, Newtella, Nut Ella, Noootellaa!
How I love thee.
Especially when you’re slathered on a hot delicate crepe, fresh off the griddle, and topped with perfectly ripened banana slices.
Drool.
Now no one’s perfect…
Including Nutella, with her sugary ways and semi-questionable ingredient qualities.
So today we’re going with Nutella’s double (a healthier, “natural” girl).
But guess what?
You won’t even know the difference.
Because we’re blending up pure hazelnut butter, cacao powder, legit vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, frozen ripe banana slices, and unsweetened original almond milk with a pinch of salt for one heck of a Nutella fake shake.
Or should I say real shake because all the ingredients are REAL and there is no refined sugar involved today.
Or weird oils.
Who needs those guys anyway?
So do yourself a ginormous favor and whip up this shake for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or a midnight snack because there’s fruit and protein involved aka healthy ish which is quite acceptable to consume at all hours of the day.
P.S. The toasted hazelnut topping is darn delicious and adds a nice crunch to this creamy dreamy chocolatey situation, but it’s not completely necessary… only somewhat necessary. Yuh know?
P.P.S. Make sure your bananas are ripe ripe ripe before you freeze them because riper banana = sweeter banana and we do want this thing sweet. Don’t let me catch you even thinking about using a slightly green nanner. We want speckles and freckles up in here.
P.P.P.S. Pea protein powder (or your favorite neutral protein powder) is completely optional, but a good choice for vegans–or anyone really–who need more protein action going on.
P.P.P.P.S. If you can’t find hazelnut butter in your local grocery store or don’t want to break the piggy bank, blend up roasted hazelnuts in your handy dandy food processor for some nut butter magic. (More detailed instructions are listed out on the recipe card.)
